Some have asked me when exactly I became a diehard Liverpool supporter. Well, it all started in 1977. I had just came back from the States. Football or soccer was alien to me when I was back in Malaysia. But I begin to enjoy and love the game.
My first real English game was the FA Cup Final of 1977. It was Liverpool vs. Manchester United. I didn't know anyone then who was either a Liverpool or Man U fan. I also wasn't familiar with the teams. But I was caught up by the whole Keegan-Toschak combination. I was also excited by the way Keegan approached the game. I knew then that Liverpool would be my team. It would've been easier for me to pick Man U then. They won the FA Cup but after the match, I decided that there will be only one team for me and that is Liverpool FC.
The disappointment of Wembley in 1977 was replaced with joy in Rome as Liverpool beat BM 3-1 in the old European Cup Final. That was to be Keegan's last game in Liverpool's red but by that time, Keegan or no Keegan, I will always be a Liverpool Red.
