Liverpool-0 Stoke City-0
After the celebrations of beating arch rivals, Man U and later Marseilles, we were bought back to earth after a 0-0 draw against new Premiership boys, Stoke City. Liverpool did everything but put the ball into Stoke's goal. Liverpool did put one and I am not sure if the ref had it right when Gerrard's freekick goal was overruled for possibly offside. It looked good to me. Had that counted, I am sure Stoke would be lucky to escape from a thrashing.
Upfront, it was really a tale of misses. Keane has yet to score. 5 games and the pressure is piling every single game. Next week is Goodison and it'll be great if he could score his first there.
Torres still looked rusty. Kuyt too. Keane has yet to show his true form and Gerrard despite bossing the midfeild was unable to penetrate Stoke. Stoke City was putting every man off the ball. It made life difficult for Liverpool.
Liverpool leads the table and that too may be temporary if Arsenal wins at Bolton. If Chelsea wins, then Liverpool will see themselves in 3rd spot by Monday. At the time of this post, Arsenal is leading 2-1 after going behind from a typical Bolton header.
Back to Liverpool. You don't win the Premiership by dropping points at home against the likes of Stoke City. They still need a striker. Michael Owen perhaps, though I haven't heard Benitez hinting any interest for the former Liverpool striker. But if Benitez could bring back Fowler, it is not impossible to see Owen back in Liverpool's red.

Notable results:
Zola's winning debut against hapless Newcastle. Its still early in the season but if Newcastle doesn't address their problem soonest possible, this may prove to be a very long season. Ashley needs to find a suitor for Newcastle and the new owner would be best adviced to strike a deal with King Kev.
